Two Mexican nationals were arrested on Thursday and charged with purchasing fraudulent documents in Tucumcari, New Mexico State Police Officer Steve Chacon said.

Arrested were Miguel Angel Badillo-Trejo, 20, and Victor Paramo-Gusman, 24. Each was charged with having a forged or fictitious driver's license and conspiracy to commit same, Chacon said.

The two men had altered local utility bills and were trying to use those papers to obtain a New Mexico driver's license, Chacon said. Officials at the state's Department of Motor Vehicles became suspicious and contacted police, Chacon said.

Each of the men had bus tickets to Dallas, Chacon said.
The two men were taken to the Quay County Detention Center, where they are awaiting a court hearing, Chacon said.

The U.S. Border Patrol has been contacted and an official of the patrol is expected to be at the court hearing, Chacon said.

Further investigation of the case is under way, Chacon said.
