On Saturday morning at 8 a.m., a U.S. Customs and Border Protection pilot and Border Patrol agents in helicopter spotted what looked like bundles of marijuana atop a ridgeline about 10 miles west of Nogales in Walker Canyon, said Richard DeWitt, spokesman for the Border Patrol Tucson Sector.
They radioed the information to agents on foot who found 15 double bundles hidden beneath a tree, DeWitt said.
The marijuana weighed 847 pounds, which has an estimated value of $487,025, according to figures from the National Drug Intelligence Center. No one was found near the bundles, DeWitt said.
