DHS: 800K fewer illegal immigrants in U.S. in '09

An estimated 800,000 fewer illegal immigrants were in the United States in 2009, the biggest drop in years, according to Census data cited in a new report from the Department of Homeland Security. That still leaves roughly 10.8 million people who were in the country illegally, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Georgia was the only state to experience an increase, from 460,000 to 480,000. California's population fell 200,000, to 2.6 million.

The reasons vary. The report said census changes could have affected the findings. Some immigration watchers attributed the drop to fewer people crossing the border illegally because of the recession, while others claimed it's because many are leaving voluntarily or being deported.

Yeah, like I really believe that one. If no one knows how many illegals are here in the first place, how can we presume to know how many have left? And census surveys are useless, as how many of those in the shadows are going to admit they have broken laws? No one knows even who lies on the census.
This is just another claim of success, and while 800,000 may have left (which is a number without real foundation, in my erudite opinion, that only leaves 39.2 million to go. And who is to guarantee that those that left are not going to be back here in a few minutes if the economy turns around?

And this is not counting the millions of citizen anchor kids.

The reports from media and government officials in Georgia was that a lot of their illegals bailed out two years ago, what is up with this claim of increase?

Just more confusion on the issue?

No one knows how many illegal aliens are here,

who they are

or where they are.

So everyone just makes up numbers to suit their mood at the moment. OMHO
