CARMEL — An illegal immigrant who had no license and a blood-alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit last year when ran down a mother and daughter as they were leaving the girl's Brewster dance class is scheduled to be sentenced today in Putnam County Court on two counts of vehicular homicide.

Conses Garcia-Zacarias, 35, has been held at the Putnam County jail since the night of June 8. That's the day that, while driving someone else's pickup truck, he sped down the wrong side of Brewster's Main Street around 6:30 p.m. and barrelled through a T-shaped intersection at Routes 6 and 22. He mowed down Lori Donohue, 37, and Kayla Donohue, 8, as they left the girl's dance class at the Seven Stars School of Performing Arts.

Kayla, a student at JFK Elementary School in Southeast, died at the scene. Lori Donohue, a Yonkers native and sales manager at Dorian Drake International Inc. in Harrison, was flown to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where she died. Left behind were Robert Donohue, Lori's husband and Kayla's father, and 5-year-old Christopher Donohue.

Garcia-Zacarias pleaded guilty in November to two counts of vehicular homicide and faces from 8-1/3 to 25 years in prison on each count.

County Judge James Rooney, who is scheduled to issue the sentence at 1:30 p.m., indicated in November that he could give the maximum on each count.

Garcia-Zacarias, who is in the country illegally, faces deportation to his native Guatemala after serving his sentence.
