Feds grab 22 illegal Maui restaurant workers

Twenty-two restaurant workers who were in the U.S. illegally were arrested by federal agents on Maui.

Eight of the workers were arrested May 2 by agents at the Cheeseburger Island Style and Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurants in Wailea and Lahaina.

Fourteen illegal workers were arrested at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in Lahaina, according to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

All of the workers, 16 men and six women, are from Mexico. Twenty of the workers have been transferred to the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu. The remaining two workers were processed and released under supervision on humanitarian grounds, pending future immigration proceedings.
