Collier County Sheriff Don Hunter will hold a news conference to discuss the start of training for 25 members of the sheriff’s office who will be certified to act as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to detain illegal immigrants discovered in the county.

The conference starts at 9:30 a.m. and will be at Public Information Office at sheriff’s headquarters in the government complex.

Today is the beginning of the four-week training session.

Hunter will discuss the training, which will make the sheriff’s office the only agency in Southwest Florida and one of a few in the nation to have deputies trained to help immigration agents.

Lee County is still dragging their A55 on this. Time to wakeup and face reality or election could be rough for some elected officials.
