Schools outline streets affected by redistricting (woh!)
HOLA mackerel, check out the shuffle going on here!:
To alleviate overcrowding at Painted Stone Elementary and West Middle School, the Shelby County Board of Education has approved a redistricting plan for the 2005-2006 school year. Letters are being mailed May 20 to students/parents affected by the change.
Superintendent Elaine Farris said there will be three groups of students receiving communication from Shelby County Public Schools:
-Those from Painted Stone who live in Martinsville and who will transfer to the new Clear Creek Elementary;
-Those from Painted Stone and West Middle who live Middleton Heights and who will transfer to Wright Elementary and East Middle;
-Those who will be in the fifth grade from Painted Stone and in the eighth grade from West Middle, since an amendment clause to the redistricting would allow them to attend those schools next fall - with the stipulation that parents provide transportation. Those parents who choose to take advantage of this amendment clause must do so by submitting the request. The deadline for returning the completed request form will be May 27, 2005.
The streets affected by the redistricting along with assigned school name are:
-To Clear Creek Elementary and West Middle from Martinsville: College Street, Cumberland Street, Eighth Street, Hedge Street, High Street, Illinois Avenue, Kent Street, Kinser Avenue, Lee Nor Mack Street, Martin Luther King Jr. Street, Ninth Street, Ohio Street, Park Street, Pearl Street, Petry Street, Rose Street, Seventh Street (Street numbers greater than or equal to 219), Tenth Street, Union Street, Washington Street (Street numbers less than or equal to 1059), Willow Street.
-To Wright Elementary and East Middle from Middleton Heights: Blackwell Road, Casper Drive, Cherry Lane, Lakeside Drive, Lena Court, Maidie Lane, Midland Trail (Street numbers less than 1801), Peachtree Street, Robin Road, Sunset Way.
Parents who may have questions about the redistricting or the amendment plan should call Kerry Whitehouse, assistant superintendent of operations, 633-2375.
