Homeland Security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen reportedly drafted a resignation letter

Homeland Security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen reportedly drafted a resignation letter after Trump railed against her in front of other officials

    May 10, 2018

Homeland Security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen reportedly drafted a resignation letter after President Donald Trump berated her in front of cabinet officials.

Homeland Security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen reportedly drafted a resignation letter after President Donald Trump berated her in front of cabinet officials, but stopped short of submitting it, according to a New York Times report published on Thursday.

Trump reportedly railed against Nielsen on Wednesday, saying that she failed to adequately secure the US border, former officials with knowledge of the incident said to The Times.

Trump's anger was not only directed towards Nielsen, who he believed was the leading authority in stopping illegal immigration. He also went off on other cabinet officials who missed his expectations on stemming the flow of undocumented immigrants in the US, one source who attended the meeting said.

The president was also said to have been triggered after discussing Mexico, which he believed was not sufficiently curbing undocumented immigrants crossing into the border.

A lingering belief that Trump has reportedly held onto was that Nielsen was resisting his idea of separating children from their families when they cross the US-Mexico border illegally. For several weeks, Trump had advocated for the separation policy as a method to discourage border crossings, sources said to The Times.

During his 2016 presidential campaign, Trump fervently pushed for immigration reform by outlining bold plans, including the construction of a massive wall stretching across the US-Mexico border.

"I will build a great wall — and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me — and I'll build them very inexpensively," Trump said in a campaign rally in 2015. "I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words."

But Mexico refused to pay for the wall, and despite Trump's efforts to limit undocumented immigration, the rate of attempted border crossings may have risen — estimates show that in April, US Border Patrol agents apprehended nearly 40,000 people in March, or a 200% increase from 2017.

Nielsen was nominated as Homeland Security secretary in December, after former secretary John Kelly was selected to become Trump's chief of staff.

Kirstjen Nielsen is for amnesty. No excuse in the borders not being secured or the large numbers of illegal aliens still entering every day, week, month.

Messages must be sent to stop this ongoing invasion. Children are pawns. Something has to change.

President Trump should ask her to resign if she cannot do her job without being swayed by deliberate actions of illegal aliens to garner sympathy through drama.

I knew it was Trump's idea. GO TRUMP GO!! Looks like he has to do everything himself, down to figuring out where to put them and what to do with them.

You start doing what he tells you to do, to the letter and verse.

Mr. President, tell them to haul all these kids to the nearest Consulate so authorities from their home countries can figure out what to do with them and pay for it. If they release them off Consulate into US, close all their Consulates and deport all diplomatic personnel.

Homeland Security chief considered resigning after Trump diatribe: report

    May 10, 2018

    Brett Samuels

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was reportedly close to resigning after President Trump berated her during a Cabinet meeting.

The New York Times reported that Trump lashed out at Nielsen at the meeting Wednesday, accusing her of failing to improve border security.

Nielsen has drafted a resignation letter but has not submitted it, the Times reported.

A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson denied the report.

"The @nytimes article alleging that the Secretary drafted a resignation letter yesterday and was close to resigning is false," tweeted Tyler Houlton. "The Secretary is hard at work today on the President's security-focused agenda and supporting the men and women of @DHSgov."

Trump reportedly complained to his Cabinet that they need to do more to address the border. He also questioned why Mexico had not done more to stop immigrants from crossing into the U.S. illegally.

The Times reportered that Nielsen told colleagues after the meeting that she did not believe she should continue in her role if the president did not think she was effective.

"The president is rightly frustrated that existing loopholes and the lack of Congressional action have prevented this administration from fully securing the border and protecting the American people," Nielsen said in a statement on Thursday. "I share his frustration."

"Border security is the most basic and necessary responsibility of a sovereign nation," she continued. "These are complex issues and I will continue to direct the department to do all we can to implement the president's security-focused agenda. It is my great honor to represent the men and women of DHS who work every day to enforce our laws and secure our nation."
The president has repeatedly called for stricter immigration laws and called for an end to illegal immigration. His signature campaign promise was that he would build a wall along the border.

Since taking office, he has called on Congress to enact stricter immigration laws, and his Justice Department has dedicated increased resources to prosecuting illegal border crossers.
Speaking at a business roundtable in Cleveland last weekend, Trump warned that "we may have to close up our country" to fully address immigration issues.

"You can't allow people to pour into our country like they're doing," Trump said. "If we don't have borders, you don't have a country."

As a group of Central American migrants seeking asylum in the U.S. approached the border in recent weeks, Trump directed Nielsen not to let the so-called caravan into the country.
In response, Nielsen issued a warning that any people who cross into the U.S. illegally will be prosecuted.

Dozens of members of the caravan have since been allowed to cross into the U.S. to plead their cases for legal asylum. The Department of Justice arrested 11 members who are accused of entering the country illegally.

Nielsen, who succeeded White House chief of staff John Kelly as DHS secretary, also carried out an order last month from Trump to deploy National Guard troops to the border to increase personnel. As a result of the directive, National Guard troops are able to support U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents.

The Department of Justice has also taken a harsher stance toward border crossing.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the department had enacted a "zero tolerance" policy for people who cross illegally, and warned that children who are apprehended may be separated from their family.

Report: DHS Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen ‘Was Close to Resigning’ After Trump Blasted Her for Not Securing Border

    May 10, 2018

    John Binder

According to the New York Times, Nielsen almost left the Trump administration following a series of complaints from Trump in front of the entire White House cabinet that she had not successfully secured the southern border.

    The report states:

Kirstjen Nielsen, the homeland security secretary, told colleagues she was close to resigning after President Trump berated her on Wednesday in front of the entire cabinet for what he said was her failure to adequately secure the nation’s borders, according to several current and former officials familiar with the incident. [Emphasis added]

Ms. Nielsen, who is a protégée of John F. Kelly, the White House chief of staff, has drafted a resignation letter but has not submitted it, according to two of the people. As the head of the Department of Homeland Security, Ms. Nielsen is in charge of the 20,000 border agents who work for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Mr. Trump’s anger toward Ms. Nielsen at the cabinet meeting was part of a lengthy tirade in which the president railed at his entire cabinet about what he said was their lack of progress toward sealing the country’s borders against illegal immigrants, according to one person who was present at the meeting. [Emphasis added]

Nielsen’s DHS has been swamped with rising illegal immigration levels at the southern border. In the month of April, nearly 40,000 illegal aliens were caught attempting to cross into the U.S.

At the same time, DHS failed to keep a caravan of Central Americans at bay, with hundreds storming the border and seeking asylum through the ports of entry.
Most recently, in congressional testimony, Nielsen 132 foreign nationals to use the ports of entry to enter the U.S. legally and seek asylum, despite DHS already being overwhelmed with border-crossers and asylum-seekers.

Nielsen formerly worked for President George W. Bush when thousands of illegal aliens were allowed to enter the U.S. after Hurricane Katrina to take coveted blue-collar jobs. Nielsen also previously authored a report promoting mass immigration as a win for big business.

We need Fire and Fury on the border. And while we need Congress to repeal asylum, refugee and UAC laws so they are all treated as illegal aliens which is what they are if they don't have papers before they get here, we also need FIRE AND FURY. No soft talk, no soft pedaling, no dallying, no worrying about their "hearings" or "rights" or wasting our time and money listening to sob stories, no back-logs in deportation orders or any of this other stupid nonsense.

WE NEED ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS DEPORTED IMMEDIATELY. ZOOM! ZOOM! ZOOM!

Make an announcement, tell them we're coming for you, we will hunt you down and throw you out of the country. That's it. Plain and simple. Authorize all state and local law enforcement to enforce US immigration law.

Kirstjen Nielsen should resign immediately because she supports Amnesty for the very illegal aliens our Constitution and laws require her to stop or deport.
