Amnesty stance canceling out another hopeful?

Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 11/24/2011 3:55:00 AMAn immigration enforcement activist predicts that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign will "implode" in light of his recent statements regarding amnesty for illegal aliens.



After watching the recent GOP presidential debate on CNN, William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC), believes Gingrich could see his poll numbers drop significantly for calling for a "humane" immigration policy -- similar to Texas Gov. Rick Perry's declaration in an earlier debate that if you do not support helping illegal aliens afford college, "you don't have heart."

"The main prediction we're making is that Newt Gingrich's campaign will derail or implode like Rick Perry's did based off of polling data that we believe was accurate that shows over 80 percent opposition to DREAM Act amnesty and in-state tuition measures," Gheen cites.

And he believes the conservative voters are frustrated that the Republican field is not taking a stronger stance against illegal immigration.

"We see a lot of the conservative base running terrified from one candidate to another," the activist notes. "They're getting discouraged and a little bit upset in many cases that we have a president like Obama in place, and Republicans keep sending us open-borders amnesty supporters like rick Perry and Newt Gingrich."


But because Newt Gingrich's comments were made so close to Thanksgiving, Gheen notes that they may not have the adverse effect that Perry's remarks had on his campaign.
