Human Error, Rain Blamed for Va. Voting Problems
Human Error, Rain Blamed for Va. Voting Problems
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The State Board of Elections says rain and human error are causing some problems at Virginia's polling places.
Spokeswoman Susan Pollard said at a briefing in Richmond Tuesday that Virginians are voting in record numbers, with some lined up outside of polling places one to two hours earlier than the 6 a.m. opening of balloting.
Of more than 2,300 polling places statewide, Pollard said only three opened late because of what she called "human error."
In precincts where voters reported problems with optical scanning equipment, she said wet hands were the likely culprit. She advised voters to make sure their hands are dry before voting.
In Petersburg, she said the wrong machines were delivered to one polling place.
Pollard took no questions during the briefing.
