Immigration and Customs Enforcement van A man from Guatemela was arrested for Human smuggling late Thursday after a traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Northern Arizona.

Eighteen other people in the van were detained by immigration officials.

A Sheriff's deputy stopped the van for a moving violation outside Seligman, west of Flagstaff, according to a Yavapai County Sheriff's Office report.

Gilber Elias-Vivar told the deputy he lived in California, but a record check showed no information on his driver's identity or license status.

As the deputy spoke with the Elias-Vivar, he noticed several people in the back of the van and asked about their identities.

The driver claimed they were all family members, according to the report.

The group was removed from the van, a total of 18 people including 14 males and 4 females.

The immigrants told the deputy they had paid the driver $200 each to get to Albuquerque, New Mexico; Elias-Vivar said he was paid just $75 per person.

After talking with the people in the van, Elias-Vivar was arrested for Human Smuggling.

The suspect then told deputies he was taking the immigrants from Los Angeles to New Mexico to work at a construction company where his father is a foreman.

Elias-Viver had several hundred dollars in cash and a bank deposit slip for $1,500.

Sheriff's deputies determined that the 18 people in the van were from Mexico and had illegally entered the United States.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials were notified and the 18 immigrants were taken to Camp Verde for processing by officials.

Wow--the driver didn't run for once and they caught him!
