Hundreds march for immigration reform in Phoenix

Maria Ruis sat in the shade cradling her 1-year-old disabled daughter, Gracie, Sunday afternoon before marching in favor of immigration reform.

Ruis, a restaurant manager and a housekeeper, said the United States is the only place where Gracie, who has Down syndrome, can receive proper medical care.

"We're not asking for anything for free. We work and we pay taxes here. This is my seventh year paying taxes here," Ruis said. "We're not all bad."
In fact, most undocumented immigrants are good, law-abiding residents of the U.S., said many requesting that President Barack Obama honor his campaign promise to reform immigration as soon as possible.

Hundreds of individuals participated in the United Farm Worker campaign "Con La Union de Campesinos Tendremos Papeles" (With the UFW We Will Have Papers) Sunday afternoon. The march began with a rally at the Wesley Bolin Memorial Park and ended at Cesar Chavez Park in downtown Phoenix.

Phoenix was the last stop of a series of celebratory rallies across various states, including California, Oregon and Washington, asking that the U.S. government honor undocumented immigrants' contributions to the American economy.

Key figures at the event expect Obama to start looking at immigration reform next month.

"We are not here out of anger, we are here out of compassion," said Alejandro Chavez, Arizona chair of the United Farm Workers, organizer of the march. "We just want to make immigration affordable and accessible for more people. You shouldn't have to wait 10 to 15 years to become an immigrant

You're here for the money - admit what we all know. While I agree that the immigration process is far too difficult, citizenship should not be easy or cheap. If something is given to you for free, it's not as appreciated and cherished as something that took hard work. So, your answer from the American voters is NO AMNESTY.

So, in the meantime, they believe it is ok to steal into this nation and simply take what they did not want to have to wait for?....

My husbands co-worker did it, and he and his wife waited, but it was not 10-15 years, it took four he said, and yes, down there, he did pay a "gratuity" for this expedience. It is common practice down there. This is NOT Americas problem if they do not want to play the game the Mexican government has going to get their approvals.

To make it even more interesting, my husbands co-worker and his wife waited to have their children till after they came legally, and are now in the process of becoming citizens themselves. I have a LOT of respect for them.

The illegals have no right to be in our country and don't deserve anything! How dare this popultion march in our streets!

Why isn't ICE in the streets checking Ids? Why are these illegals calling our representatives in government?

UHHHH... how have you been paying taxes for SEVEN years? OR should I say under who's STOLEN IDENTITY have you been paying? Do you ever think of the problems you are causing for that person? Of course not, it's all about you and how you can manipulate the system into working for you.

And NO you ARE NOT "good, law abiding residents" everything about you is a lie! From the moment you jumped the border, you have been breaking the law! SINCE DAY ONE!
