ROCKFORD — Maria Peinado is going through the process of becoming a U.S. citizen. But until the paperwork is complete, the Juarez, Mexico, native has no driver’s license or Social Security card, and the simple task of cashing a paycheck is difficult.

Peinado was among hundreds of Mexican nationals who went Thursday to La Voz Latina to obtain passports and a Mexican ID card called a “matricula consular.â€

They lie on their applications.

You have to be here for 5 years under legal status. But they have anchor babies, get married or find a sponsor... and apply to get their status adjusted and then apply for citizenship.

We have got to stop the insanity! Ever here illegaly, never become a citizen and they should get deported.

If they are under legal status , shouldn't they have papers?

This article makes no sense. How can this individual be legally applying for citizenship? Don't you have to be a green card holder for x amount of years before gaining full citizenship? Citizenship is not automatic! Yes, I'm suggesting the lady is illegal and she hasn't officially applied for citizenship. If she was in this country legally, she would have a temporary visa or green card (indentifying documents)! I think Staff writer Isaac Guerrero is guilty of bias and false reporting!

I doubt they are applying for citizenship or doing anything they should be......they're waiting for the magic Amnesty fairy to wave the citizenship wand....
