Huntsville councilman proposes tough laws for illegal immigrants

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. A Huntsville city councilman has proposed a law that would fine landlords renting to illegal immigrants 1-thousand dollars a day.

Huntsville City Councilman Glen Watson has proposed the law as part of his Illegal Immigrant Relief Act Ordinance. The act also makes English the official language of city businesses and would penalize employers hiring illegal immigrants.

Watson says he's proposing the laws because - quote -- "anybody coming into this country, and into our city, should be a legal citizen of this country,"

The ordinance will be introduced Thursday night, but will NOT be up for a vote.

I called Glen Watson's office today. He emailed me back later and said over 80% of responses to his proposal were positive thus far. So I really think this will pass.
