ICE removes Uruguayan convicted of acting as a foreign agent in the U.S.

WASHINGTON - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) completed the removal of Rodolfo Wanseele Paciello, 43, to Uruguay, his country of citizenship, on June 28. Wanseele was convicted in December 2008 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida for conspiracy to act in the United States as an agent of a foreign government without consent of the attorney general.

The flight departed the Miami International Airport (MIA) in Miami, FL, on Monday, June 28, 2010, and arrived at the Carrasco International Airport (MVD) in Montevideo, Uruguay, on Tuesday, June 29, 2010.

Wanseele's conviction stems from his involvement in a plot to conceal the Venezuelan government's attempt to contribute $800,000 in cash to the political campaign of Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, who is now president of Argentina. He was sentenced to 36 months in prison.

He was released into ICE custody from the Federal Detention Facility in Florida.

Wanseele entered the United States on Sept. 24, 2007, through Miami using a non-immigrant H1B visa. Wanseele was ordered removed from the United States to Uruguay on April 29, 2010.

ICE is committed to keeping the nation safe by ensuring the secure removal of aliens who violate laws designed to protect the national security of the United States. Part of the agency's mandate is to identify, prosecute and ultimately remove such offenders from the United States.
