    4 charged after ton of marijuana seized from boat in Long Beach
    Omar Quintero, 28, of Los Angeles, Miguel Angel Quintero Jr., 38, also of Los Angeles; Eliasib Ventura, 34, of Alhambra; and Jonathan Ventura, 31, of Pomona, were taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and were named in a one-count criminal complaint filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court.

    Dozens indicted in multimillion dollar Indian call center scam targeting US victims
    The co-conspirators allegedly used “hawalas,” in which money is transferred internationally outside of the formal banking system, to direct the extorted funds to accounts belonging to U.S.-based individuals. According to the indictment, these individuals were expecting the hawala transfers but were not aware of the illicit nature of the funds. The co-conspirators also allegedly kept a percentage of the proceeds for themselves.

A co-defendant in this matter, Mackenzy Scott, 20, of Providence, pleaded guilty on September 20, 2016, to conspiracy to sex trafficking children.

    British national sentenced for illegally exporting sensitive technologies to Syria
    Ahmad Feras Diri, age 43, of London, was sentenced to a 37-month term of imprisonment, a $100 special assessment, and ordered to forfeit $45,698 to the government. Diri was arrested by the Metropolitan Police in London on March 14, 2013, and extradited to the United States on charges filed in the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

    4 Canadian men charged in Vermont ATM fraud scheme
    Mathieu Baaklini, 21, Ben salma, 21, and Brandon Lo, 24, all of Laval, Quebec, and Nicolau Manfredi, 21, of Montreal, were each charged with conspiracy to fraudulently use access devices resulting in the receipt of more than $1,000 in cash.

    Gary Alan George, 56, pleaded guilty April 5 to receiving child pornography and was sentenced Oct. 25 to 60 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Thad Heartfield. George was indicted by a federal grand jury May 6, 2015.

    Canadian man pleads guilty in Massachusetts to drug trafficking
    David Nguyen, 40, of Toronto, Canada, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute MDMA (aka “ecstasy” or “mollie”) and marijuana; and one count of conspiracy to launder money. Nguyen was indicted in January 2014, arrested in Canada in May 2014 and extradited to the United States in October 2016 after he temporarily surrendered to the United States.
