Bank robbery suspect facing immigration hold

A Rockwall man, charged in connection with the armed hold up of a local bank in January, now has additional problems to deal with.

Jose Martin Guevara remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail and had been seeking a reduction in his $250,000 bond on one count of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

But Guevara will not be receiving any lowering of the bond, as he is now also being held for federal immigration authorities.

Last Wednesday, 196th District Court Judge Joe Leonard appointed an attorney to represent Guevara, then scheduled a hearing to consider Guevara’s bond for Tuesday.

However, it was announced during Tuesday’s hearing that Guevara has had a hold on his custody placed by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. Leonard took no action concerning Guevara’s bond and no additional hearings were set.

Guevara has been charged in connection with the alleged Jan. 3 hold-up of a branch of the American National Bank location at 601 Joe Ramsey Boulevard in Greenville. Guevara was alleged to have tied up a female employee of the bank, while threatening her with an ice pick during the robbery. He was arrested later that same day outside of a Rockwall residence and the money taken during the robbery was recovered.
