IA-Committee: Make Iowa City immigrant sanctuary

Committee: Make Iowa City immigrant sanctuary

    BY MITCHELL SCHMIDT | JANUARY 21, 2010 7:30 AM

The Rev. Rudolph Juarez wants to provide a sense of security that many Iowa City residents take for granted.

Juarez is a member of the Sanctuary City Committee, an organization striving to provide basic needs to immigrants in Iowa City, regardless of legal status.

The council better start using their brains. Why would a legal immigrant need sanctuary?

    Not surprising for Iowa

Well, maybe IA does not official have a sanctuary city - but let me ASSURE you that from Des Moines to the east Iowa border there is plenty of sympathy and "looking away" going on. Just for example, in Marshalltown I and another person was police escorted out of an "immigration discussion" when asking hard questions of the officials of the city. It was nothing more than a "let's feel sorry for the illegal aliens and the bad, bad ICE agents who conducted the Swift raids.

I've been across the state of Iowa not only to oppose "immigration summits" but when working on Congressman Tancredo's presidential campaign - and I couldn't wait to leave the Ultra Liberal East side of Iowa. I'll be sure to help pass this information on to some grassroot organizations in Council Bluffs......JUST UNBELIEVABLE how this city and others across the country set out to destroy our jobs and communities.
