DENISON, Iowa - A Central American man has been sentenced to federal prison after pleading guilty to illegally entering the United States after he was deported due to felony convictions.

The U.S. Attorney's Office announced Wednesday that Jose Nieto-Campos, 30, was sentenced to 50 months in prison after pleading guilty to illegal re-entry as an aggravated felon.

Nieto-Campos, who is listed on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry, was deported to his home country of El Salvador in 2004 after pleading guilty to indecent contact with a child, operating while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a revoked license, according to court documents.

A grand jury indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Sioux City accused Nieto-Campos, 30, of re-entering the United States on Nov. 24, 2009, in Laredo, Texas.
