ICE agents not immune from lawsuit

NASHVILLE — Immigration agents, who with the Maury County Sheriff’s Department arrested 14-suspected illegal immigrants, will not be entitled to immunity from a lawsuit filed against them.

The order was issued Friday by U.S. District Judge Robert Echols in a motion for summary judgment made by ICE agents represented by the U.S. Attorney for Middle Tenn.

While the defendants are denied immunity, the plaintiffs in the case may not recover money damages from the unnamed ICE agents acting on behalf of the U.S. Government, the judge ruled.

George, three deputies and three unnamed ICE agents made the arrests July 3, 2007. A lawsuit was filed by Nashville attorney Eliot Ozment July 10, 2007, stating Maury County Sheriff Enoch George, his officers, Maury County and ICE agents conspired to deprive the plaintiffs of their basic constitutional rights.

Even though the plaintiffs lost the ability to recover monetary damages, there are “numerous genuine issues of material fact,â€

what the hell is this circus. ICE probably needs to ensure they are following the law, sure, but we ALL need to pay close attention to the cynical moves here to attempt to shut down ICE enforcement!

All those people live in one house ?

Have they been deported ?

It should be the illegal invaders and the government of mexico who is sitting as defendants in this Federal court room...

UH HUH...just who is fronting the money to these 14 illegals to pursue any lawsuit? It's gotta be the unlimited deep pockets of the OBL and anarchist element, especially since there is no monetary award to gain if successful. Absolute proof that the illegal alien advocates and hispanic supremacy groups are trying to totally shut down any enforcement of our laws. FOLLOW THE MONEY. I even wonder if any money was fronted by our own Congress to any of the groups in this lawsuit in the name of 'minority outreach', 'hispanic housing assistance', low income neighborhood assistance, minority voting registration initiative or a host of other questionable advocacy groups and their pet front projects that hide the true expenditures of taxpayer money they receive.

Every law person is subject to law suits. It's needed because many abuse the power they have. On the other hand....it's not right when the crowd outnumbers the officer and 15 guilty criminals join forces and LIE, just so the lone officer is outnumbered.

Sometimes majority rules and sometimes it's nothing more than mob rule.

I remember a rally or something a while back where this woman attacked a person.....she threw hot coffee in the face of a man and then out of the shadows a mob said the man attacked her....when he did no such thing. She even tried to blame him for putting dents in her car that were already there.

This above all things scares me and why I hate this mob action.

There was a video at a march in California where people were quietly holding signs and a bunch from the other side came up......this guy busted in the crowd and pretended to be shoved by this old woman.....fortunatly there was a video there which proved the woman had both hands on her sign and feet on the ground and didn't touch him.......but without the video...it's like 10 old people vs 40 young people. Who wins?

This is a very slippery slope here. There are people who cross the line and there are those who LIE. Without some way to document it.....everyone is in danger.

I agree that they SHOULDN'T, but unfortunately courts have ruled that many Constitutional rights are guaranteed to EVERYONE present in the U.S., including illegals, rather than just U.S. citizens or those legally present. It's all backwards, if you ask me. OUR Constitution should guarantee OUR rights as citizens and be used in courts to protect OUR interests, imo...not be used to make it easier for those here illegally to stay.

The possibilites are many. However, I suspect the ACLU, SPLC, or maybe even MALDEF.
