Two Mesa men were arrested Thursday night on suspicion of breaking into a home and attempting to steal copper wire from the attic, police said.

Police said a witness called police after seeing two suspicious men walking back and forth from the back yard of a house in 400 block of East Franklin Avenue to the car parked outside of it.

Police said when they arrived at the location they heard a noise coming from the attic of the house and found Richard Ramirez, 27, and Fernando Rodriguez, 19, inside an enclosed storage room near the carport of the house.

Police said Ramirez admitted he had walked through the unlocked back door and went into the attic to steal copper wire. Police said Ramirez become nervous when he heard police arriving at the house and his foot fell through the drywall.

Police said nothing was taken from the house.

Police said Ramirez also admitted to another burglary on Sep. 16 where he and another man kicked in the rear door to a house and stole a generator from the kitchen.
