    ICE arrests five Indonesians

In Grand Island on Friday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested five men from Indonesia who were allegedly in violation of the terms of their visas.

One of the men was arrested at a Grand Island restaurant. That business is believed to be Fuji Japanese Steak House, 1004 N. Diers Ave.

The men had violated crewmember visas, according to an Immigration official.

Crewmember visas are issued to people working on board commercial sea vessels or international airlines. People who hold those visas are required to leave the U.S. within 29 days.

Those who violate the terms of the temporary visa, such as by jumping ship, are subject to arrest and removal.

The Immigration official described the Grand Island arrests as routine.

The ICE agents were acting on information received from another federal agency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The ICE employees were given information about only one visa violator. They went to a Grand Island residence looking for him. The suspect wasn’t at home, but they found he had four roommates who were in the same boat. They were arrested at the residence.

The ICE agents learned that the fifth man had a job and went to the restaurant, where he was arrested.

They will remain in custody pending disposition of their cases.
