"ICE Princess" Hopes To Stop S. Fla. Crime Wave
    Reporting
Brian Andrews MIAMI (CBS4) ― The wave of violent crimes in South Florida is getting federal attention.

The director of the investigations for ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, told CBS4'S Brian Andrews that stopping that crime wave is one of her top priorities for the South Florida agents who report to her.

Marcy Foreman says her agents have teamed up with the Broward Sheriffs Office and Miami-Dade police to crack down on the rash of violent crimes in South Florida. She's also directed her agents to look more closely at crimes like weapons and human trafficking and international money laundering.

Foreman says there are some major investigations happening right now in our area.

"Human smuggling, trafficking, a lot of money laundering," Foreman told Brian Andrews in a one-on-one interview.

She says there are also terrorism concerns as Miami remains a vulnerable target.

"It's a very high tourist area. It's a major financial center. Certainly we have to be cognizant and we can't afford to let our guard down". Foreman said they're not just watching Middle East terrorists either. "We're looking at all terrorists, transnational terrorists, I mean the Farc in Colombia, those are groups we've always been interested in whether it's drug smuggling, arms smuggling, and money laundering," said Foreman.

Foreman described how the rash of counterfeit merchandise circulating in our area is an example of how some terror groups get the money.

"The money is the lifeblood of any criminal organization, and that includes terrorists, and terrorists are criminals and certainly we don't want money lots of money going to state sponsors of terrorism," said Foreman.

ICE is also investigating gang violence in South Florida which recently had more than 350 arrests in our area.

"Miami-Fort Lauderdale unfortunately has a gang problem. Many of these gang members are foreign born, recently since June, Miami was one of the top offices going after these transnational gangs," said Foreman.

Smuggling is also a focus for ICE agents here. They still see people swallow condoms full of drugs or $100 dollar bills. There was even a recent case of money hidden in bicycle tires and boxes of laundry detergent.

I live on the Fl. west coast and Illegal Alien crime has steadily increased and the Miami Dade problem is moving to SW Fl.

A lot of the problems here are caused by Cubans which really surprises me.15 grow houses in the past 2 weeks, cocaine, increased murders, home invasions, stolen vehicles + Motorcycle Chop Shops. We keep breaking crime records for our county.

I hope ICE steps it up here as well as the East Coast so we can go back to being a relatively safe place to live.

    3rd world Nation...

Unfortunately S. Florida has been a sleazy 3rd world nation for the last 20+ years. Smuggling, violent gangs, drugs & DISEASES that are starting to spread so fast that national epidemics seem a reality.
The death of Castro may very well create a massive exodus of cubans dashing back home..... hopefully to stay & build Cuba.
And, if a USA deep recession or depression is as imminent as it seems, public opinion may well take a violent turn against immigrants as jobs become scarce.

They need to get rid of the wet foot dry foot policy as it encourage trafficking in humans. Every week we get more of them and before they make land they already have food stamps and section 8 housing set up for them. This information came from a disguisted Cuban. Also they better be ready as the 1900 who were arrested in South Florida for violent crimes not long after they arrived on the Mariel Boatlift are now out of jail. They made criminal registration and many gave bogus addresses so when the police check on them they can't find them.
