Immigration reform and fear factor NAVARRETTE

    Immigration reform and fear factor

    By Ruben Navarrette
    2:00 a.m. August 19, 2009

When talking about immigration, Americans need to get their stories straight.

The debate is about to start up again. Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York has said he intends to introduce, after Labor Day, legislation calling for comprehensive immigration reform. Schumer has an ally in Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who is working to rustle up support from his side of the aisle.

Recently, I was guest-hosting a radio show and fielding calls on immigration. I remember two calls in particular that showed the disingenuousness of the debate. The first caller claimed: “No one is opposed to immigration ... this is a country of immigrants ... it's just illegal immigration that people are upset about.â€

Although Navarettes stories are dribble, and I rarely read them, instead, skimming them over for pertinent information (which there almost never is), he has given us a VERY good piece of information that the not so transparent administration would not have given us:

Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York has said he intends to introduce, after Labor Day, legislation calling for comprehensive immigration reform.
So, let's be on top of that and start making those calls, even letting your reps know that deals are being made behind closed doors and that behind the push is Schumer and those who back him, the usual suspects.

There's no "fear" factor from anti-illegal movement. It's economical and common sense.

Illegal immigrants make it much harder for legal immigrants to come in. We need to reverse illegal immigration and deport all illegal aliens currently in the US (yes, that includes their minor children also).

Illegal immigration harms legal immigrants. Why doesn't Rueben admit that?
There is no upside to illegal immigration at all and never will be. They must ALL go.

Ruben Navarrette shows more people what a complete idiot he is each time he puts pen to paper.

Americans have every right to be concerned about illegal immigration and to reduce all immigration if we want to. We are Americans. We are supposed to run our own nation.

And Navarrette speaks as if there are few real problems for people to be concerned with illegal immigration over as if it is just FEAR.

He apparently needs to visit our website www.endillegalimmigration.com

Navarette is long on nuances with little basis in fact. Why is the West more illegal-friendly than the South? Perhaps because the chicken plucker has now been replaced by an illegal in the South.
To quote Bill Clinton, it's the economy, stupid! Not only the economy but Americans citizens continually find themselves supplanted by foreigners.
And Rubin did not mention one word of the stress added people put on our water, infrastructure and even the effects the black market is having, whether it is drug trafficking or human smuggling, a few bringing in strange diseases which are either unknown here or were eradicated years ago.
If one is going to comment on society, look at it seriously and look at in the entirety, not a couple of comments by outraged radio show callers. Do not dismiss the opinion of Americans as superfluous just to make a point about how silly and scared we are. It goes way, way beyond that.

Vortex, on the water issue, you are right on the button. Here is a very localized example.

Our complex has 35 units, which are all two bedroom, one bathroom. Local county standards set these as no more than 5 people per unit, ideally 4 (which is us). Thirty four of the units are over-crowded, at least 8 in each unit.

The landlord has mentioned over the course of the last two years how bad the water bill is here, he even considered taking out the laundry rooms within the bigger buildings (leaving only the duplexes with their internal laundry facilities). He then made a strong stance against any car washing (which was rampant) and threatened anyone washing their cars here, to be evicted.

The municipal water company told him that ideally his water bill, for this amount of units should be half of what is has been!! Now multiply this around our nation. They are drying us up, and it seems their numbers grow daily (aka as "anchor babies"), and above that they are proud of their ever increasing numbers from high birth rates. However, they are stabbing themselves in the foot, they will suffer when their numbers get so high that resources will become scarce, but hey, guess they have to have something to be proud of right?
