Nebraska: Guatemala man charged in Kearney stabbing
Guatemala man charged in Kearney stabbing
Dec 1, 2007
KEARNEY, Neb. - A Guatemala man faces charges and possible deportation in connection with a stabbing early Friday morning in Kearney.
Mauro Yos Chiguil is suspected of repeatedly stabbing his 21-year-old girlfriend with a steak knife in their northwest Kearney apartment and injuring her 13-year-old sister when she tried to intervene, according to Buffalo County Court records.
Authorities said the girlfriend and mother of Chiguil's 6-month-old twin sons suffered stab wounds to her head, shoulder, chest and stomach. She was released after treatment at a local hospital.
Chiguil, 32, was charged with attempted second-degree murder, felony second-degree assault and two weapons offenses. He's been placed in the Buffalo County Detention Center on $500,000 bond.
Deputy Buffalo County Attorney Melissa Willis said Chiguil is an illegal immigrant and has been reported to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
