VANCOUVER, Wash. – A man accused of crawling into bed with a 5-year-old boy last Friday and raping him was in court Tuesday.

Joe Juillermo Fajardo, 26, has no known criminal record according to prosecutors, but Mike Vaughn, a deputy prosecuting attorney, said allegations against Fajardo are disturbing.

“The defendant entered an occupied home at night, crept into the bedroom of a 5-year-old boy and preceded to rape him,â€

6-year-old scarred after sexual assault

VANCOUVER, Wash. - A mother and son have a long road ahead of them as they struggle to move on after the boy was molested by a neighbor who broke into their apartment.

The boy, who just turned 6 years old, feels some relief that the man who crawled into his bed naked and attacked him just pleaded guilty and is in prison. But the boy's personality has been significantly changed.

The mother does not want to share her identity, or her son's, but she did talk to us about the ordeal.

What Happened?

Back in September, the boy was asleep in his bed when a neighbor, Joe Fajardo, broke into their apartment in the middle of the night. He then crawled into the boy's bed without any clothes on and sexually assaulted him. Fajardo ran from the house when the boy's mother heard screaming.

"It was one of the worst nightmares a mother could wake up to, her kid screaming," she said. "Seeing a grown man in his bed is just not something a parent should have to deal with."

Fajardo ran from the house but returned to the door while the mother was calling 911. Why? He wanted his sock back. Police arrested him right outside the home.

The Attacker

Fajardo was initially charged with rape of a child but the boy's mother didn't want to put the kindergartner through the trauma of testifying. Last week, Fajardo took a plea bargain for first-degree child molestation and will spend 7 1/2 years in prison.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Fajardo is an illegal immigrant and could be deported to Ecuador after serving his sentence.

We have also learned that Fajardo posted items on the Internet seeking multiple sex partners.

What's Next for the Victim

To deal with the boy's anger and aggression, he and his mother are in counseling.

"Reassuring him that it's not his fault, the stuff that happened to him is not his fault and there are some icky people in the world," the boy's mother said. "And we surrounded ourselves with people that loved us."

She is telling her son that he can grow up to be anything he wants and that he is a good person. But the trauma is affecting him deeply.

"He still has bad dreams and nightmares at night," she said. "Because we moved, he's sleeping in his own bed now and playing in his room but at the other house he was not going into his room to sleep. He wouldn't go in there to dress, to play - nothing."

The boy is angry, acts out aggressively and will no longer hug his own grandmother. But counseling is helping.

Send him back to Ecuador with that prominately displayed tat..in spanish and english.
