ICE urges illegal immigrants to flee Gustav
ICE urges illegal immigrants to flee Gustav
The Associated Press • August 31, 2008
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials are urging illegal immigrants to flee the Gulf Coast before Hurricane Gustav’s arrival, telling them not to be worried about checkpoints.
Agency spokesman Brandon Montgomery says there are no immigration enforcement operations, and no immigration enforcement checkpoints associated with evacuations.
He says the Department of Homeland Security’s top priorities in any emergency “are lifesaving and life-sustaining activities.â€Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

As far as these illegals go, this hurricane has tripled their fear, first of being caught, second of living in the shadows and third with a hurricane ready to do major damage to their residences and livelihood so they cannot sent remittances home to support the countries they fled from.

One thing is for sure, the IA's don't have much fear of ICE and Homeland Security or they wouldn't still be in the Gulf Coast area where the Homeland Security and FEMA officials have been camped out for the last three years.I guess the illegals figure that they have very little chance of being caught, very little chance of being deported if caught, and very little chance of being caught reentering the U.S. after being deported if they are deported. We need for ICE to be a separate department with a Dept.head that demands enforcement of immigration laws to the fullest extent, instead of the tepid enforcement ICE is allowed to do now.It is not the employees fault, they will do the job if allowed.I commend them for the recent stepped up enforcement of our immigration laws.It does give lawbiding citizens a little encouragement.

Votex I really don't believe in a "second" that's just rhetoric to make illegals look like victims so they can claim they need compassion.
Yes I believe that those in the shadows are afraid of a lot more than ICE as they cling to their communities, not assimilating, and see things like drug gang violence shooting innocent bystanders and children before their eyes.
I have very little sympathy for those that sneak across the border looking for the American dollar to send home. You make your bed and sleep in it and we need a firm positiion of the people in charge that will define what our stance is on illegals, and perhaps to quell the rest of the world drooling to come here illegally.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

good idea
What a great idea, tell them "Don't worry, there will be no checkpoints leaving New Orleans."
Put the checkpoints in before anyone goes back!
A great chance to put nature in our favor of arresting and deporting illegals-let nature do half the work.

It would be the irony, to have them all out safely and thinking they than get to return, after the storm, to their snug little hovels, then have then all caught!!

No FEMA cash assistance should be given to illegal aliens...let their nations of origin help them either return home or provide the means to house them elsewhere. The Mexican Consulate should be making prepartions to assist the illegals in the Hurricane' s path.

And when the hurricane passes, they'll be first in line for the clean-up/fix-up jobs. I was watched a show last night about the changing demographics of N.O. and they said the population before Katrina was 2% Hispanic and is now 20% Hispanic.
