ICE captures international fugitive from Honduras

ICE captures international fugitive from Honduras wanted for weapons charges

MIAMI - On Tuesday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents with the Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Miami arrested Martin Jesus Mendoza Perdomo, 47, a Honduran national living in Miami who was wanted in his home country for possession of illegal firearms.

ICE special agents in Miami initiated the investigation as a result of an inquiry received from law enforcement officials in Honduras and INTERPOL.

Law enforcement officials in Honduras performed a search of Mendoza's residence on a warrant issued Jan. 27, 2009, and discovered a cache of illegal firearms. Honduran officials theorized that Mendoza had fled Honduras for the United States.

"This individual tried to make a new life in the United States, but his past caught up with him," said Anthony V. Mangione, special agent in charge of the ICE HSI office in Miami. "ICE is committed to ensuring the integrity of our nation's immigration system. As such, it is one of our top priorities to locate foreign fugitives hiding in the United States and turn them over to our foreign law enforcement partners to face justice in their native countries."

Mendoza was subsequently taken into ICE custody to await deportation proceedings for his removal to Honduras.

    Good job of catching him.

Why wasn't he stopped from entering in the first place. Had he been checked on entry Honduras would have had him back sooner.

Is this another example of turn your head and let them in and sort them out after they get here?
