Over 15,000 violators of the residency and labor system are currently living in government shelters awaiting deportation. Figures recently released showed that the Ministry of Labor last month deported more than 58,710 foreigners who had violated residency or labor laws.
According to statistics released by the command and control center of the Interior Ministry, another 15,590 violators are awaiting the completion of deportation procedures. About 49 percent of the total number of deportees left the Kingdom via King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, followed by the Altwal border crossing with 33 percent. King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh handled 8 percent of deportation cases.
Security forces have vowed to continue their inspection campaigns at all sites and locations where foreign workers are known to gather.
A tour by Aleqtesadiah newspaper spotted the return of unskilled laborers at different sites of the capital. Workers were seen crowding again at the same locations they used to frequent in the past.
Earlier, Minister of Interior Prince Mohammad bin Naif issued a ministerial decision detailing the sanctions to be imposed on any person who violates the relevant codes and norms that deal with the violators of residency and labor laws: fines followed by imprisonment and deportation. In case the violations are repeated, the sanctions are doubled. Prison sentence will also be imposed on those who transfer, hide, or give shelter to any violator.
Ahmad Al-Luhaidan, spokesman of the Passport Department said arrangements to deport violators take only a day in case all the necessary documents are submitted, with no other claims that entail staying over.
“Coordination and arrangements are made with the embassy of the violator's country of origin to issue the necessary documents in case he has no identification on him. All nationalities get the same treatment as violators in such cases,” said the spokesman.
The Ministry of Interior announced earlier that it deported 722,836 violators last year. The violators came from different parts of the Kingdom. The largest number of deportees was during the two Hijri months of Muharram and Safar with 234,423 people repatriated.
