TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A two-time prison escapee was captured and deported from Mexico today by Mexican law enforcement authorities.

Rocky Delgado Marquez, 34, escaped from jail after switching identities with another inmate in May 2012. Marquez was awaiting trial on charges of misconduct involving weapons, influencing a witness, perjury, forgery and driving under the influence.

The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Marquez in January in Detroit.

Soon after he was detained in the Wayne County Jail in Michigan, Marquez used a similar method to his first jailbreak, when he exchanged wristbands with another inmate.

The search for Marquez led deputy U.S. Marshals and law enforcement partners to Mexico. Mexican law enforcement arrested Marquez in Hermosillo, Sonora.

"Marquez's arrest in a city center apartment in Hermosillo, Sonora will bring an end to his extensive criminal activities in the U.S. and Mexico," David P. Gonzales, U.S. Marshal for the District of Arizona, said in a news release.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said he was thankful for the help of authorities across the border.

"Rocky Marquez escaped from two jails using an unusual ruse," Arpaio said in the release. "But thanks to the cooperative efforts of the U.S. Marshals Service, my office and Mexican authorities, he is back in custody."
