Chicago police are investigating the slaying of a 15-year-old West Side youth who was killed a block away from his home on Friday night.

Miguel Pedro was gunned down at about 9:55 p.m. as he stood on the street near 1624 N. Keeler Ave, police Officer Laura Kubiak said. Authorities said it appears to be a gang-related shooting.

Pedro, who lived in the 1500 block of North Keeler Ave, was pronounced dead at 4:18 a.m. Saturday at Cook County's John Stroger Hospital. He had been shot in the back, authorities said.

Witnesses told police that Pedro had been standing on the street when someone shouted gang slogans at him and opened fire, Kubiak said.
