This article is from the Mexican Newspaper HOY (internet version), which is distributed in LA and Chicago. It has been through the google translator so it’s not 100%.

Rosanna Pulido is one of the good people here in the Chicago area. I have met her a couple of times.

They call halt to proposed 'anti-immigrant'

Chicago - Latino activities asked the public to stop a proposed law, which they describe as anti-immigrant, but the supporters who consider it a weapon to confront the violence.

Members of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), the New Center Community and religious leaders yesterday were planted outside the offices of state representative Kenneth Dunkin (D-5) not to support the bill or HB5756 "Illegal in Correctional."

According to the text of the proposal HB5756, the amendment initiative of the Correctional Code of Illinois and will give the Department of Corrections or the Department of Juvenile Justice the power to notify the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Surveillance (ICE) in suspected cases of a person imprisoned and liberated by those units is in the country illegally and placed in deportation proceedings.

Opponents to the proposal indicates that the measure is only an attempt to anti-immigrant groups that support the initiative, to propagate hatred, using the state legislature.

Catherine Salgado, spokesman for ICIRR, said, "what we want is that the representative Dunkin not support the proposal and ask the public to call their legislators to not support it."

The representative Dunkin said yesterday that he does not sponsor the measure, or voted for it, but noted that it would review the proposal to determine what action to take.

Eric Ward of New Community Center, dijo that "this proposal is created and supported by racist groups. The state legislators should not allow people like Rosanna Pulido continue pushing an agenda of hate and use the term, which severely harm to communities to paint all immigrants as criminals. "

Pulido, representative of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, said that the group fully supports the measure, but indicated that the initiative has another goal.

"All that does is stop the violence and death that occurs in Chicago. We must get rid of the criminals who do not belong to this country as soon as possible. This initiative will be described as' Neighbors Insurance ', "said Pulido.

But Salgado, spokesman for the ICIRR, the problem with the initiative is that sometimes there are people in custody of authorities who have not been charged with anything, but that could be reported to immigration authorities.

Salgado also wondered "what the law is based on what is going to base officials to report to a person, how the appearance of the people?. This will encourage the selective discrimination or racial profiling. It is also unnecessary because there is already a federal law that does that. "

Pulido, in this regard, he replied that the measure seeks to promote selective discrimination or racial profiling.

"If a criminal is a criminal, at least they say that all criminals are of one nationality, which I do not know," said Pulido, who added that "requires that all law enforcement agencies work together to do their job. "

The proposal would be discussed today at a committee of the Lower House and if Turner would pass the full House of that.[/img]

Perhaps the representative Dunkin should listen to the people who elected him, rather than illegals who have no standing. Otherwise, the representative Dunkin may find himself in another line of work.
