Illegal Immigration's Impact On Black Unemployment In America

The conservative Republican blogger notes how black liberal writers who backed President Obama’s position on illegal immigration on racial grounds, are now crying foul about how illegal immigration takes jobs from black Americans: "The Root.com features an article by Cord Jefferson, 'How Illegal Immigration is Hurting Black America', which laments the impact illegal aliens have on the black community. Jefferson cited Brooking institute senior fellow Audrey Singer, who agrees this situation is clearly hurting blacks. She also says that illegal immigration disadvantages 'people at the lower end of the pay spectrum.' Singer accepts that this is detremental to low-income families as well as black people. So why were Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter made out to be villains when they called for a stronger border. And doesn’t that mean that the cause of the Minute Men [sic] was actually to the betterment of black Americans, even though the mainstream media made them out to be a bunch of Confederates?"

Thegreyfalcon's commentary continues: "Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, says that employers find Hispanic illegal immigrants easier to deal with and less demanding than black workers. He even claims that management doesn’t want to deal with 'the young black male'. So would Obama’s [a]mnesty policy going to lead to continued displacement of the voting block that gave him 95% of their support? Of course it would. That is why it was so important for his supporters to make the Tea Party and town hall movement out to be 'ethnically motivated' as [MSNBC host Chris] Matthews put it. This masks the reality that Obama’s agenda actually harms the lower skilled workers more than it hurts 'fat-cat' CEO’s. The only reason that the unemployment figures are not rising as fast as they had in 2008 is because so much of the pool of 'expendable' labor has already been laid off. Firms are down to their most essential employees, and the lure of low-wage workers who don’t demand more becomes very difficult to resist. Most people don’t remember Obama saying that this issue was a 'gimmick', but it seems the very people who so ardently supported him are realizing that it was a very real problem. More Hope and Change we can believe in."
