Illegal alien faces drug, gun charges

A Mexican national reportedly in the United States illegally is behind bars in Independence County on illegal weapons and drug charges following a suicide at his apartment Nov. 9.

According to a court affidavit filed by John Scarbrough of the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force, information from a citizen led officers to Jose L. Huerta, 32, of 2140 Lyon St., and to later search the backyard of his residence following the death of Stephen Dale Ingram, 27, who reportedly shot himself at that residence.

When officers searched a small building at the rear of the residence, they reportedly found several guns, including a .25 caliber pistol, a sawed off 20-gauge shotgun, a .22 caliber rifle, a .38 caliber revolver and a 9mm pistol.

“They also located four bags tied in a knot containing a crystalline substance. There were also two bags containing a green vegetable material, a spice grinder, a set of digital gram scales and a large amount of U.S. currency,â€
