Illegal Alien Indicted By Federal Grand Jury

Illegal Alien Indicted By Federal Grand Jury
The Ohio County Sheriffs Department arrested two illegal aliens earlier in July. Now one of those men is facing up to ten years in prison.

Juan Mariano Pascual was arrested after sheriffs deputies spotted him walking down I-70 on July 14th.

Deputies notified immigration officials, and they found Pascual had a record. Now he's been indicted by a Federal Grand Jury.

Pascual had been kicked out of the country back in 1999, and coming back without permission is a felony offense.

The sheriffs department recently came under fire by the ACLU for what they called questionable practices, but the sheriff insisted they were doing things by the book.

Sheriff Burgoyne said the indictment is proof that his deputies know what they're doing.

"I've said this many times. Even though this is a small case in the United States, it's cases like this that will lead to the new legislation to address our major problem, said Burgoyne.

Pascual is facing ten years in prison, and $250,000 in fines.

There is a bit of irony in this case, Pascual goes by the nickname ice. The acroynym of the federal agency that catches illegal aliens.
