LIMA — Sheriff Dan Beck said Monday’s sentence of an illegal immigrant that will lead to his deportation should send a message in Allen County to abide by the law.
Guadalupe Tapia, 43, was sentenced Monday on the charge of attempted tampering with records, a fourth-degree felony. Allen County Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Reed sentenced Tapia to 180 days in jail and gave him credit for time served since Nov. 23.
Tapia will serve the remainder of the sentence in jail but Reed left open the option of getting rid of him sooner if the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement people can get him. He was arrested in November for trying to sell false forms of identification to an undercover officer.
Tapia’s case marks the first of its nature locally following a fight launched by Beck who has concerns illegal immigrants would bring a wave of crime to town and offer cheap labor that would push local workers out of jobs.
In court Monday, through an interpreter, Tapia said he tried to sell false identification after being offered $100. Tapia said it was a one-time deal and he was in the area to work as a roofer.
But Beck said that is not true. Beck said his officers have found Tapia’s business card on at least five illegal immigrants in recent months.
Beck said Tapia worked for a Columbus-based network geared toward providing illegal immigrants with false forms of identification.
This will be the third time Tapia has been deported from the United States and given the fact he now has a felony conviction, he could face more than 20 years in prison if he’s caught in the country illegally again, Beck said.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Wanna bet he'll be back in the U.S. within two weeks of his deportation.
