A citizen of the Dominican Republic will serve 2 years in federal prison after being caught as an illegal alien in St. Lawrence County.
Federal authorities say Rafael Arismendis Herrera-Ortiz was stopped for speeding on Route 37 in Waddington in March 2006.

He told troopers he was a U.S. citizen from Puerto Rico.

He also showed a New York Department of Motor Vehicles Learners Permit showing his photograph and an assumed name.

Also in his possession was an apparently valid state DMV identification card, also with his photo and the assumed name.

Authorities say Herrera-Ortiz lived in Utica, where he had applied for a social security card under his alias.

Compare that to the 4 year 3 month sentence imposed in Kentucky for the Illegal caught smuggling 35 pounds of cocaine in the drive-shaft of his truck!
