Illegal alien sentenced in conspiracy

By The Gazette Staff
A man from Mexico in the U.S. illegally will spend five years in federal prison for trafficking cocaine in Billings and then will be deported.

U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull on Thursday sentenced Fausto Bonilla-Dominquez, 27, to the minimum mandatory five-year term.

The judge said Bonilla-Dominquez had a criminal record and committed the drug offense while on probation for a 2001 conviction in Colorado. Despite his criminal history, Bonilla-Dominquez has never been deported.

Cebull ordered him deported after he serves his sentence.

Bonilla-Dominquez pleaded guilty in January to conspiracy to possess cocaine for distribution.

He was accused, along with other co-defendants, of trafficking cocaine late last year. Bonilla Dominquez was charged separately from co-defendants and is prepared to testify against them, said his attorney, David Duke.

The judge held Bonilla Dominquez responsible for a little more than 4 pounds of cocaine.
