    Illegal aliens found in Gladwin

    Gladwin County Record

GLADWIN — A 32-year old Mexican man was arrested on Sept. 12 around 1:18 p.m. for malicious destruction of property.

Eduardo Leyva went into the Next Door Food Store in Gladwin to buy alcohol, according to Gladwin City Police reports. The clerk refused to sell him the alcohol because he didn’t have identification.

According to reports, as Leyva left the gas station, he kicked the door, shattering the glass. Gladwin City Police found him walking down Cedar Avenue.

He was arrested, and later the police found that he was an illegal alien, who had been in the U.S. for 10 years, according to police.

The Gladwin City Police contacted Immigration Naturalization Service, who detained Leyva to the Gladwin County Jail, meaning he couldn’t leave. The INS picked him up the next day, said police officials.

Leyva was found guilty of destruction of property and was sentenced to 20 days in jail that will be served with the INS, said police.

He will be returned to Mexico, said INS Agent Ramon Deliz.

At the same time, the INS went to a local restaurant where they believed a few more illegal aliens may be, said Deliz.

They found two illegal China men. One man had been deported once and snuck back into the U.S., Deliz said. The other had come to the U.S. in 1997 on a vacation/business trip and never returned to China.

According to Deliz, the man who had been previously deported could be sent back to China again, and the other man will remain in the U.S. until he has a hearing, which could take a year or more. A judge will decide if he will be deported back to China.

China won't take them back anymore. They're just gonna be released.
