Immigrant workers rally in NY to demand naturalization

• Thousands of people have gathered in New York City to demand an end to the deportation of immigrant workers. The protesters denounced what they call the continued violation of human rights for millions of undocumented immigrants throughout the United States.

According to the Pew Research Center in Washington DC, there are approximately 11.7 million undocumented workers in the United States, the overwhelming majority of them immigrants from South and Central America.

In New York City Thursday, a crowd of several thousand people demanded an end to continued harassment, repression, and deportation these workers face.

Venezuelan Immigrant Activist William Camarcaro told us about repeated raids by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.

Many immigrant workers say they are highly disappointed at the policies of US President Barack Obama.

Colombian Immigrant Activist Lourdes Vela, pointed out that Obama has deported more immigrant workers than any other President in the entire history of the US, and that there has also been a rise in anti-immigrant violence from right-wing vigilante groups.

Several thousand people attended the protest, demanding the immigrant workers be allowed citizenship.

As the rally concluded, the workers marched from Midtown Manhattan to the New York City Immigration Court near Wall Street, calling for an end to the violent raids, and closure of the immigrant detention centers. Caleb Maupin, PressTV, New York.
