Illegal immigrant accused of ID theft

PROVO — An illegal immigrant who is accused of using the Social Security number of a 2-year-old Blanding child was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Orem.

Luis Sanchez, 18, is charged in 4th District Court with forgery and identity fraud — two third-degree felonies — for allegedly stealing a government identification number so he could work at Utah County businesses.

Sanchez applied for a job at Sundance on August 24 using a fake Social Security card, police said. The number on the card belonged to Maydene Kaye's 2-year-old daughter.

After getting in touch with local police, the family was referred to the Utah Attorney General's Office and the case was assigned to Lt. Kevin Pepper, who works on the FBI Identity Theft Task Force.

After an investigation, Pepper charged Sanchez on May 30 and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The man is being held in the Utah County Jail on an immigration hold.
