The bodies of two likely illegal immigrants were found in the past two days near the same village on the Tohono O'odham Reservation.
U.S. Border Patrol agents recovered the bodies of the two men west of Sells near the village of Big Fields, said Mike Scioli, Border Patrol Tucson Sector spokesman. Sells is about 55 miles southwest of Tucson.
On Monday just after midnight, agents came upon a person lying on the ground, unresponsive. During a check for vital signs, they couldn't find a pulse and contacted the agency's search, trauma and rescue team, Borstar, as well as a life-flight helicopter.
Borstar agents arrived and began chest compressions, but the helicopter was unable to land due to dusty conditions, Scioli said.
The person, a man who has not yet been identified, died at the scene.
On Sunday at 7 p.m. near Big Fields, agents encountered a 19-year-old Guatemalan man who told them he had left his father behind without water about three hours earlier, Scioli said.
Borstar agents tracked the man's footprints south and at 11 p.m., found the father dead. He was 50 years old.
The bodies were turned over to the Pima County Medical Examiner's Office, which handles all bodies of suspected illegal immigrants discovered in Pima, Santa Cruz and Pinal counties.
From Jan. 1 through June 24, the latest figures available on Monday, the Pima County Medical Examiner's Office had handled the bodies of 74 illegal immigrants, compared with 82 at the same time period the year before.
