Illegal Immigrant Charged In Fatal Wreck
http://www.wsoctv.com/news/6513507/detail.html
POSTED: 10:54 pm EST January 27, 2006
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A fatal drunk driving wreck last weekend caused backlash for Charlotte's hispanic community.
Noel Moreno was charged with involuntary manslaughter and driving while impaired after the wreck last Saturday on Beatties Ford Road. Immigration customs enforcement officials confirmed Friday Moreno was in the country illegally. Moreno's passenger, Roberto Casillia, died at the scene. Casillia was also an illegal immigrant.
The Latin American Coalition said Friday cases like this only hurt the way the community views latinos. "People are angry about our immigration system and rightfully so...it's broken and needs to be fixed," said the coalition's executive director, Jess George. "Unfortunately, a lot of people take the misunderstanding of immigration law and turn it into something that's akin to bigotry."

Driver Charged With Illegal Crash is Illegal
Tuesday, January 24, 2006
WBTV News has confirmed with Immigration officials that a man involved in a deadly crash last weekend is illegal and should not have even been in the United States.
Noel Moreno was involved in an accident on Beatties Ford Road Saturday night. Police said he ran off the road, overcorrected and ran head-on into another vehicle.
One of the passengers in Moreno's car died and two other men in his car were injured.
The driver of the other car and her passenger were also hurt.
Police charged Moreno with driving while impaired and involuntary manslaughter.
Immigration officials told WBTV News on Tuesday they are not even sure if Noel Moreno is the man's real name. They said he entered the country illegally. If convicted of the charges, Moreno faces jail time and eventual deportation out of the country.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Driver in fatal wreck charged with DWI Accused and 4 others injured in collision
MICHELLE CROUCHmcrouch@charlotteobserver.com
A Charlotte man has been accused of drunken driving in a weekend wreck that killed someone in his own vehicle and injured four others, including one critically, police said.
Noel Moreno of Charlotte was traveling south near the 5600 block of Beatties Ford Road in northwest Charlotte Saturday night when his Isuzu Rodeo ran off the right side of the street, authorities said. He then overcorrected and traveled across the center line, police said, colliding with a 2001 Ford Expedition heading north.
Moreno remained hospitalized in good condition at Carolinas Medical Center Sunday. He was charged with driving while impaired, police said.
The wreck is the latest to affect the local Hispanic community, in the midst of a high-profile effort to educate Latinos on the dangers of drunken driving.
The issue emerged after the August death of a Mount Holly teacher in Eastern North Carolina, in which an illegal immigrant was charged with driving drunk. Subsequent fatal wrecks in the Charlotte area heightened the debate.
In this wreck a Latino was also the victim.
Police did not release the name of the deceased Sunday night because they were unable to find and notify family members.
Two other passengers were in Moreno's vehicle. Jorge Moreno, 34, was in good condition at Carolinas Medical Center and Juan Martinez, 33, was treated and released from Presbyterian Hospital.
The driver of the Ford Expedition, Debra Wright, 46, was also treated and released from Presbyterian. Her passenger, Joanna Grier, 42, of Charlotte, was in critical condition Sunday night.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
