Illegal immigrant gets 30-month term

A Mexican national from Indianapolis who entered the country illegally has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for that charge in a plea agreement, the U.S. attorney's office for the Southern District of Indiana announced Wednesday.

Ivan Rojas-Armenta, 26, pleaded guilty to illegal entry into the United States subsequent to a conviction for an aggravated felony and deportation.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigated the case. Rojas-Armenta was convicted in Georgetown, Ky., of burglary, a felony, in November 2004 and was deported July 29, 2005. By January 2007, Rojas-Armenta had returned to the United States and begun serving a jail sentence on a conviction for criminal confinement from Marion Superior Court.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Doris L. Pryor, who prosecuted the case, said Rojas-Armenta would be deported again after he serves his federal prison sentence.
