A 24-year old resident of Mexico pleaded guilty to ammunition charges in U.S. Federal Court.

U.S. Attorney Walt Wilkins announced that Thomas Castro pleaded guilty to felony possession of ammunition and possession of ammunition by an illegal alien in front of U.S. District Judge Henry F. Floyd. Castro was arrested after an incident on September 20 in which he pointed a handgun at a Greenville Police officer during a traffic stop and then sped off. Castro was pulled over on Interstate 385 and then fled on to Woodruff Road where he was apprehended with four rounds of ammunition in his pocket.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says that Castro is an illegal immigrant with a prior conviction for assault and battery with intent to kill and is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail and a fine of $250,000. He will face deportation proceedings following any prison sentence he receives.

Castro will be sentenced at a later date.
