EL CAJON – Raul Yepez Jimenez approached a woman he'd never met on an El Cajon street, held her at gunpoint, and groped and attacked her, according to testimony in a Superior Court hearing Wednesday.

The woman resisted and screamed, which drew the attention of some nearby police officers. The attack ended when Jimenez pointed a .38-caliber revolver at El Cajon Police Officer Mark Bevan, who shot him twice in the abdomen, Bevan testified.

When asked by police why he assaulted the woman, Jimenez, 31, said he wanted companionship and he snickered, an investigator testified.

At the end of Wednesday's hearing, the judge ruled the prosecution had presented enough evidence for Jimenez to be tried for attempted murder of a police officer, assault with intent to commit rape and other assault charges. If convicted, the illegal immigrant faces a maximum sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole, said prosecutor Renee Palermo.

Jimenez's defense attorney, Deputy Public Defender Karen Hirr, declined to comment about the case. During the hearing, Hirr suggested her client did not know he shot at an officer because Bevan never identified himself as a policeman.

Bevan was in uniform at the time, according to testimony.

The attack happened around 2 a.m. June 28. As the woman returned from buying ice cream at a convenience store, she was confronted by Jimenez in front of an apartment building on Washington Street near Emerald Avenue.

The woman, a 38-year-old home health care worker, told police Jimenez had a gun in his waistband, reeked of alcohol and groped her, Detective Robert Berger testified.

Bevan and two other officers were leaving the apartment building after investigating a fight between siblings when they happened upon the attack near their patrol cars, Bevan testified.

Funny thing, I never saw this story reported on any local San Diego news broadcast when it occurred. I live in El Cajon, about 2 miles from where this vicious attack occurred and I am very watchful of any crime reports regarding illegal aliens in my neighborhood, and I saw nothing reported on this attack back in June.

Then again, I'm not really surprised given the track record of local San Diego news outlets regarding crimes committed by illegal aliens on local residents, they rarely report on the countless robberies, carjackings, rapes and molestations perpetrated by illegals every week. But if an illegal is confronted, intimidated, robbed or assaulted by a local resident it is front page, wall-to-wall coverage, top of the hour news.

Just recently a person identified as a member of the MinuteMen went on trial for allegedly attacking some illegal alien day laborers in a canyon encampment. He says he was only taking pictures when he was confronted and then only defended himself when surrounded by the irate illegals. But of course, the local news covered the story as a violent, racist hate-crime against the poor defenseless, hard working 'undocuemented worker', just here to provide food for their starving families back home.

I don't know the details of the incident, and if the guy is guilty he should be found so and punished accordingly. But the way the local news covered it was disgusting, they all made sure to mention the MinuteMen group repeatedly, like it was part of their normal operations to go out and hunt down honest, law-abiding, innocent day laborers and beat them up while blasting them with racial epithets. They interviewed nearly every pro-illegal alien supporter in town, including Enrique Morones, etc. who all jumped on the all MinuteMen are racist vigilantes out to murder every poor Mexican on sight, illegal or not. They were given fully unchallenged platforms to spew their vile anti-American propaganda.

But when an illegal is the one accused of a crime, they totally try to ignore that the crimes ever took place. When they do report on the more un-ignorable type crimes, like cop-killings and baby molestations, the local news reporters almost act apologetic, constantly referring to how these actions in no way reflects on the wonderful contributions of other illegals and how rare illegal alien crimes really are.

What a crock of B.S., if they reported on every crime committed by illegals in San Diego, like DUIs, hit & runs, domestic violence, rapes, robberies, gang banger shootouts, etc. they would barely have time left for sports and weather.
