Illegal immigrants must be deported

Joshua Hoyt of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights says our federal government shouldn't be deporting illegals whose "only crime is working," ("Fugitive' immigrant arrests up," Dec. 5.)

Deportation is the punishment for entering this country illegally for whatever reason. So what, exactly, is Hoyt's point? Answer: Illegal aliens, he believes, are exempt from obeying the rules the rest of us are expected to follow.

The late Barbara Jordan, who chaired President Clinton's immigration commission during the mid-1990s, said deportations are necessary if our nation's immigration policy is to have any credibility, a concept that represents a direct to Hoyt and his fellow anarchists.
