Illegal Migrants Dissect Details of Senate Deal

TUCSON, May 19 — Under the shade of a mesquite tree here one morning this week, waiting for work that did not come, ElĂ*as RamĂ*rez weighed the hurdles of what could be the biggest overhaul in immigration law in two decades.

To become full legal residents, under a compromise Senate leaders announced Thursday, Mr. RamĂ*rez and other illegal immigrants would have to pay a total of $5,000 in fines, more than 14 times the typical weekly earnings on the streets here, return to their home countries at least once, and wait as long as eight years. During the wait, they would have limited possibilities to bring other family members.

Sure, pass out immigration reform and they will continue to break our laws.

Just enforce the immigration laws. Immigration reform is a waste of time and it's status quo.

    Hi Kate,

What a tear-jerker story, pass the crying towel!

As Rush Limbaugh pointed out, all that citizenship stuff, pay $5k stuff, etc. are merely distractors to fool and placate the public.

Once the Kennedy-Bush bill passes, all 22+ million illegals* gain "permanent legal status," with every benefit of citizenship except voting. They'll be immune to deportation, and ditto for their families back in Mexico.

The Kennedy-Bush bill is so attractive, even some of the H-1B non-immigrants of their website are looking at switching to Kennedy's new "Z" visa that the illegals will get. (I'll see if I can dredge up the URL).

*Plus, as we know by now, the first 400,000 border jumpers each year, from now on, get instant legal status as soon as they hit US soil (if the murderer of Mary Jo Kopechne gets his way).

They won't go back and they won't pay the fines

We all know that they won't go back home and they won't pay the fines. We all know that the fence will not be built
We all know that these people will continue to break the laws and use the system.
We all know that Bush wants America to be the new Mexico
We all know that our nation is NOT protecting us against terrorism.
We all know that the only way that we can find out who is here and who they are is to start Mass Deportation.
We all know that there children should go back with them. There parents came here illegally and the children are illegal as well.
We all know the only way for this to work is to stop employers from hiring them. Stop and deport.
We all want our government to honor the CONSTITUTION.

    Hi Paige,

    Thank you, Paige.

Most of us know, by now, that the Kennedy-Bush Amnesty Bill was written by the National Communist La Raza. Any legislation pertaining to illegals should have been written by the survivors of the victims of illegals and by the unemployed victims of the H-1B non-immigrant visa.

I'm just curious, does anyone know what it costs someone to go through the proper legal channels to become a citizen? It's gotta be a lot more than $5000 I'm sure.

[quote:2sr3lhgi]Sipping from a bottle filled with ice as the day’s heat soared, Mr. RamĂ*rez occasionally broke away when pickup trucks and other vehicles approached, joining others begging for a day’s work.

Now doesn't this statement just say it all. If we needed a work force why are these prople standing on a corner begging for a days work??

These are our good citizens jobs who have been doing construction for 300 years and they want to give them to cheap labor and illegal people from a foriegn country. STOP THE AMNESTY and no guest workers!! GO home and built your own country!!
