RIVIERA BEACH— About 14 or 15 people believed to be illegal immigrants came ashore on Singer Island Friday morning.
Police have rounded up about half of them, including a pregnant woman who went into labor and was taken to the hospital, Riviera Beach Police spokeswoman Rose Anne Brown said.
The men and women, believed to be from the Dominican Republic and Haiti, came ashore behind the Marriott hotel at 3800 North Ocean Drive sometime before 7:30 a.m., Brown said.
Police continue to search for the remaining people in the neighborhoods west of the hotel, she said.
Authorities believe the people arrived by boat. The U.S. Coast Guard has been alerted.
"We're tracking a boat; it's a speed boat we believe is headed back to the Bahamas," Brown said.
