Why can't the ERs start asking what people are there for, and if it's for a cold, or something non life-threatening, refer them to their own doctor? Illegals unfortunately have to be treated for life-threatening emergencies, but who said they have to be treated for things that aren't? Even for life-threatening things, they should only be stabilized, not admitted, and given pain killers. They shouldn't be given a room, or anything for comfort (unless impossible to do without, like serious surgery - but for childbirth, if it's not by c-section forget painkillers and a 2 day hospital stay) People are dying because they have to wait for serious emergencies, so what is so wrong with the ER staff telling people they aren't dying, their situation isn't dire, and they can't get treated? Did an illegal run out of expensive meds? Too bad. Send them home.

A real ER solution
I have a solution for these ER problems. For all non-life threatening emergencies, make it a standard practice to see those that can prove their citizenship first. The key is to make it voluntary so while they can still see everyone, those that offer it get treatment first.
It will also trim the overall waiting time, as illegals not suffering from life threatening injuries will grow frustrated with the increased wait time and leave.
Since, in the end, we end up paying for our care AND theirs, don't we deserve such an amenity?
The advocacy groups won't have a leg to bitch on because it isn't prejudiced at all. It's a voluntary amenity that ANY legal citizen of any color can use. Let's just see them try to argue it without being able to lump all immigrants together (as they do).
